Johannesburg & SAB World of Beer Tour

Getaway Guru’s most popular tour!

Johannesburg & 'SAB World of Beer' TourDuration: Full Day

The Experience: Living the past with a drive through the Johannesburg City, to the top of the Carlton Centre for a panoramic view of Johannesburg and its surrounding areas. We wind our way past the traditional medicine market on to the informal pavement stalls and “Muti” shop of Diagonal Street. We travel to the West of the city to the Apartheid Museum. This is certainly one of Johannesburg’s most important tourist attractions and has become a must do on everyone’s calendar. Replays of apartheid scenes set in a double volume ceiling, concrete and red brick walls and grey concrete floor triggers vivid images of a torn nation on the brink of collapse to an exciting ending of a peaceful 1994 election and democracy. After a lunch at one of the local restaurants, we continue onwards to visit the SAB centenary center were we discover the secrets of ancient beer brewing. Ukambo tradition reveals the secret of making sorghum beer within African culture, go back in time and experience a real 1965 shebeen.

Finally in the comfortable setting of the Tap room we invite you to relax and enjoy a glass or two of your favorite beer (included).

Instead of visiting the SAB World of Beer we recommend the option of Lilliesleaf Museum.

For this option we start our journey to the residential area of Rivonia. This will fill you with insight into this interactive museum experience. Liliesleaf honors South Africa’s remarkable heritage and the impressive trajectory of South Africa’s socio-political past.Once the headquarters of Umkhonto we Sizwe, the military wing of the ANC and the Congress Alliance, Liliesleaf holds a position of esteem among struggle landmarks in South Africa. You will experience a first-hand account of the events and circumstances leading up to the infamous raid of the Rivonia farm, as well as insights into some of the revolutionary personalities such as Walter Sisulu, Nelson Mandela and Govan Mbeki, who helped to shape South Africa’s democracy.
